About
the wine
A powerfull and full bodied red wine made from 90 % Grenache and 10%
Syrah from very old vineyards by the topproducer Pierre Usseglio from
Chateauneuf du Pape. De name of this wine is connected to the two
brothers Usseglio who are currently running the estate.
The wine is made from 90 % Grenache and 10% Syrah. The grapes come from
the oldest plots of the fields. 60% of this wine is matured in
barriques (new or used for 1-3 years) and the rest in demi-muids or
tank.The production is very limited. It is not a wine to drink young.
According to the producer: "We advise to keep this wine 10-15 years
before starting to taste it". Robert Parker normally rank the wine with
97-100 points.
Pairs very well, with all kinds of red meats, wild boar, roast suckling
pig and strong seasoned dishes. Drinktemperature is 16-17° C.
Drink until 30 - 40 years after the year of production.
About the
producer
Domaine Pierre
Usseglio started its acitivity in 1948. It was the Italian Francis
Usseglio who left Italy in 1931 and went to Chateauneuf du Pape in
France. Here he got a job at some winegrowers. After the war he got his
own property - in 1948. He had two sons Pierre and Raymond. Pierre
Usseglio got his father's property and Raymond established another
estate. Today the 3rd generation is in charge. The sons of Pierre
Usseglio, Jean-Pierre and Thierry run Domaine Pierre Usseglio and
Stephanie runs Domaine Raymond Usseglio.
Today Domaine Pierre Usseglio consists of 22 ha. divided in 15
different parcels in the appellation. Half of the vines are about 60
years old and the rest is about 30 years old.
Usseglio produces Cotes du Rhone, white Chateauneuf, de basic
(tradition) Chateauneuf, the cuvee mon Aieul and the cuvee
Réserve des Deux Frères. |
